I’m not sure that I enjoyed the stressed tones and harsh plot at points I felt a little uncomfortable on behalf of Elizabeth, and I don’t like reading books that leave me feeling unsure and uncomfortable. The circumstances that bought Elizabeth and Martin together where much atypical than I was anticipating, and the general tone of their marriage was more tumultuous than in most romance novels I read. I’ll admit from the outset that the plot wasn’t what I was expecting.

A series of obstacles and misunderstandings then ensue, pushing the already teetering couple to breaking point in an attempt to make a good marriage out of a bad situation.

They marry, and shortly after Elizabeth regains her memory, leaving her to deal with the fact that she is married to the man who ruined her family. Martin takes her in and looks after her, but is very lustful and ends up getting her pregnant.

However, she gets lost on the way to his house, and manages to obtain a bump on the head and amnesia when she shows up on his front door, she has no memory of who she is or why she is there. Savage Possession starts with Elizabeth Campbell trying to save her twin brother Alastair from the law by appealing to the better nature of her family’s mortal enemy, Martin Mulvaney.
